Let’s first understand what Plesk is and what it can be used before we dive into the guide on how to install Plesk.
Plesk is a commercial web hosting control panel software that enables server administrators to manage web hosting accounts and websites from a single graphical interface. It was initially developed by Plesk Inc., and later acquired by Oakley Capital.
Plesk is available for both Windows and Linux operating systems, and it provides features such as domain management, website creation, email management, database management, file management, security and backup, and more. It is used by web hosting companies, web developers, and website owners to simplify the management of their web hosting infrastructure.
How to install Plesk Onyx?
Step 1: After logging in to your server with root privileges using an SSH client, execute the following command:
sh <(curl https://autoinstall.plesk.com/one-click-installer || wget -O - https://autoinstall.plesk.com/one-click-installer)
The installation process may take anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes. If you encounter a hostname-related error during the installation, do not exit the installation process. Plesk may display warnings with instructions on how to resolve such issues.
Once the installation is done, a congratulatory message will be displayed in your Plesk control panel along with a URL for accessing it.
Kindly copy the complete URL provided by Plesk and paste it in your web browser. If the URL does not work, it is likely due to a blocked port in your firewall. You can confirm this by temporarily disabling the firewall and attempting to access the URL. If it works after disabling the firewall, then you may need to open the necessary Plesk ports in your firewall configuration.
Step 2: Please accept the cookie policy and provide your name and email address in the Contact Information section:
Step 3: Please scroll to the bottom of the page and input your password or generate a new one if required, ensuring that you store it in a secure location.
Step 4: In the License section, if you have a Plesk Onyx license key, please enter it. Alternatively, you can choose a full-featured trial license if you do not have a license key. In this example, we will use the free license.
A new window will appear, displaying the initialization details.
Congratulations on the successful installation of Plesk Onyx! You can now access the Plesk administrator area using the root login details or the admin username and password set in step three.
